Dunfirmline, Scotland

Once the capital of Scotland, Dunfermline remains the principal town of Fife, once a kingdom in its own right. Its famous abbey was build by David I of Scotland in the 12thcentury. Dunfermline was also the birthplace of the great industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Located just north of the Firth of Forth, the town is less than an hour from Edinburgh and also convenient for historic St Andrews and the Fife coast.
